Active Control – a new collaboration between Mencap's Trans-active Project and in ControlThe Trans-active team have been successful in gaining funding from the Department of Health as part of a new collaborative project to develop an on-line planning tool for helping young people between 16 and 25 to prepare for individual budgets. The in Control team have been working with Local Authorities developing approaches to individual budgets and negotiating this major change in policy for some time. The mission of in Control is to play a key role in the creation of a new system of social care – Self-Directed Support. In this system people will be in control – of their support, the money they are entitled to and their lives as valued citizens. Gamelab (Shoreditch Consortium) will be our web developers. Work on the project began in September 2007 and is scheduled to launch the new website in 2010. We will be keeping everyone informed of our progress and achievements through this website and by direct contact with Trans-active users. Young people lead YAP website project evaluation
On yap there are interactive games, music, videos, photos and messaging. People can also upload photos and share what they like to do too. Now, young volunteers are leading on the yap website evaluation. The pilot phase of this has now been completed. Alice Clancy a young volunteer from Devon worked with Dr Mary Kellet from the Open University Children’s Research Centre to undertake and develop her own research into the yap website. Alice wanted to find out what young people think about the website. Alice learnt research skills and methods and developed a method of her own too. Alice showed young people the yap website, observed young people testing out and exploring the site, recorded their reactions, asked them to rank their preferences and asked questions about how they found the site, Alice developed a method where young people could add emotion pictures to their feedback too. Now the pilot phase has been completed, Alice and other young volunteers will be leading the main evaluation. They will be interviewing 20 more young people to find out what they think of the website project yap. All the data they collect will be analysed by themselves and their findings will be put in a report, also written by them. Links
